Ink under the cut )

I don't read a lot of superhero comics, but I recently decided to check in on my childhood favorite, the Green Lantern Corps. It is no wonder, then, that green lanterns started showing up in my sketchbook.

...

I also took a screenshot if you were curious what size I work at in photoshop.

Adventure! [Aug. 24th, 2009|07:44 am]

I've got a lot of projects in the pipe right now, but unfortunately, none complete enough to show you just yet.

To tide you over, here is an image from my sketchbook.

Drawn while watching 'The Misadventures of Flapjack'.

Everyone draw Galactus! [Jul. 19th, 2009|09:04 pm]

Ink under the cut... )

In the past couple of days I've seen a couple posts on my friends list exhorting everyone to draw Galactus, Devourer of Worlds.

Alright, I say, this 'Galactus' is a sexy dame right? Well too bad, because that's what I'm going with.

She can devour MY planet anytime. Aw yeah.

...wait, what?

Ink under the cut... )

I have to say, I am really excited about the upcoming animated movie, '9'.

Ragdolls, machines rising against humanity, clockwork monsters, and a post apocalyptic setting, you couldn't push more of my buttons if you tried.

Watch the trailer for yourself.

what walks on two legs in the morning... [Jun. 29th, 2009|12:23 pm]

Ink under the cut... )

I haven't been drawing much. I could say that I have too much going on, but that would be a prevarication. The truth of the matter is I have more free time than ever before. It seems I created so much more when I had to steal those moments from work or other necessary business.

However, there is a simple technique I employ to get started drawing again. I simply draw someone elses characters in my own style.

In short, fanart.

For the source of todays drawing, let me direct you to Gastrophobia, which occasionally features comics about sphinx.

Cave Story [Feb. 14th, 2009|08:01 pm]
[Tags|, ]

I played Cave Story a while back, and I've been meaning do do a little piece for it.

It is a game about a pair of military androids (who have amnesia) fighting a mad scientist who is turning a colony of talking rabbits into monsters...

You know what, the story isn't important.

What is important is that Cave Story is a pixel perfect platformer. If you havent played it, you're missin' out. It's free, get it here.

Metroid [Dec. 5th, 2007|01:28 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

A little while back I picked up a Gamecube and a bunch of games on the cheap, and when I can spare a moment I've been working my way through them. I am currently playing Metroid Prime, with its frustrating control scheme.

Of course it is impossible that I play a game without it showing up in my doodles.

AWWWWW. It thinks shes its mama.

Metroid Prime brings back memories of Playing Metroid II on the game boy. Defining moment was at the end where, after finally exterminating the metroid threat and killing their queen, Samus happens on a metroid egg as it hatches. The larval metroid then imprints on her and follows her around like a lost puppy. Aww.

(Sure, it's cute now, but wait till it grows up.)

Oh yeah, and here is the scan of the drawing before I colored it.

Psychonauts, color [Nov. 26th, 2007|12:31 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Missed a couple updates, was busy with army stuff, but I was able to find the time to color that psychonauts fanart I drew last week.

Ink and Photoshop CS.

Trying something a little different for this one. First, I flat-filled using the paintbucket tool, then added shadows and details using the 'Watercolor loaded wet flat tip' (under dual brushes).

I'd like to be able to do more dynamic coloring, but I always end up taking a more conservative route. Baby steps, I suppose.

I'm using a laptop and I worry that my brightness/contrast may be off, that my drawings are coming out too dark/light. I used to check them on a regular monitor but we dont have any of those around here. What do you guys use for monitor calibration?

robot lurve [Nov. 12th, 2007|11:38 am]
[Tags|, , , ]

Whats in the old idea file today?

'robot lurve'

I'm sure I had meant to type 'love.'

So here you go, a charming little doodle about a robot giving his heart (or perhaps its an alternator) to the vaguely female object of his desire.

Well, that drawing isn't very big. Here is a bonus drawing to make up for it.

"I am on the road crew."

One of the enemy agents from Psychonauts, and his terrible disguise.
