Ive been messing about with screenprinting, laying the screen directly onto the fabric. That works, but tends to smear. You get a better result using a press to maintain a little standoff betweeen the screen and the fabric.

I did a little looking around the internet, but even the smaller presses are pretty pricy considering their simple construction. I could easily make one using scrapwood I had laying about.

For mats I took the bits from a busted wallocker. Particleboard with wood veneer.

My parts, numbered by layer from lowest. I tried to cut so I could keep the faux-wood edging exposed.

And theres everything screwed together. I picked up some actual hinge clamps from the store rather than try to improvise something.

Looking back, I probably should have driven the screws for the pad up from the bottom, so as to leave the working surface unmarred. Oh well, i'll keep that in mind for Screenpress Ver. 2.

Lately, I have been doing a bit more exploring of my adopted home state and drawing from life. It is a bit awkward, though, wandering about with pockets stuffed full of pens and things.

Normally, as a shut-in, I don't run into this sort of problem.

Alright, so I need a bag to put things in. Ive got a lot of bags, but they were all issued to me by the military at one point or another. I don't like to advertise my affiliation, so maybe I could modify it a little.

Here is a small bag. You can see where I tried to black out/remove the 'US army' last time I needed a bag for something.

Ive been practicing screenprinting, so I've got a bunch of scrap prints laying about. I'll just cut one of those out and seam up the edges.

I like this Gear and Key design I did, I'll use that.

There we go. A little spray fixative to make it lie flat and a quick pass through the machine and we are done. I just need some pin-on buttons and the indie look is complete.

I draw on a drafting table, which is a nice large area for drawing. Too large, really. I usually only use a couple feet in the middle.

I have trouble organizing things while still keeping the necessary tools close at hand. But I had an idea.

I bought a roll of magnet tape and put a strip along the side. The magnet tape is not terribly strong, but holds all my pens well enough by the metal clips on their caps.

I put another strip near the top of my desk, for miscellaneous tools. The strip is thick enough that nonferrous items can simply be placed along the top edge to keep them from rolling off the table.

After I took these pics I moved the pen strip to the right side of the desk to be closer to my dominant hand.

Do you guys have any useful tips/mods?

I could say that I have too much going on, but that would be a prevarication. The truth of the matter is I have more free time than ever before. It seems I created so much more when I had to steal those moments from work or other necessary business.

However, there is a simple technique I employ to get started drawing again. I simply draw someone elses characters in my own style.

In short, fanart.

For the source of todays drawing, let me direct you to Gastrophobia, which occasionally features comics about sphinx.
